Greg (my hubby) talked me into re-watching the Lord of the Rings movies last weekend with Justin (our son) and we really enjoyed them. We are watching the last one this weekend. Answer To Trivia This question requires some qualifications. For instance, do remakes count? I say no. Do made-for-TV movies qualify? I say no again, so scratch the bridge between Gone With the Wind (1939) and Scarlett (1994). Same for direct-to-video releases. That means Bambi (1942)/Bambi II (2006) and Cinderella (1950)/Cinderella II (2002) can't be included. This leaves us with a bevy of candidates, each with a substantial number of years between films. There were 16 years between Chinatown (1974) and its sequel The Two Jakes (1990); 19 years between The Last Picture Show (1971) and Texasville (1990); Two full decades between this year's Rambo and Rambo III (1988). It's a tie between the pairs of Carrie (1976)/The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) and Psycho (1960)/Psycho II (1983) at 23 years. An incredible 25 years passed between The Hustler (1961) and The Color of Money (1986). It seems the winner in this race is the combo of The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Return to Oz (1985) at 46 years. There is some debate on whether this is a true sequel of the original by L. Frank Baum. For the purposes of this question, we'll consider it a legitimate follow-up. Ten years have passed since the release of the first X Files movie, The X Files: Fight the Future, in 1998 and this year's The X files: I Want to Believe.
