Answer To Trivia Jodie Foster has had such a lengthy career that many people forget she was a child star. She started out at the tender age of 3 as the Coppertone Girl in a TV commercial. Thereafter, she made numerous TV show appearances and then made her film debut in the 1970 made-for-TV movie Menace on the Mountain. Jodie was eight at the time. She continued to appear in mostly Disney productions in the early '70s including Napoleon and Samantha. Jodie graduated to a much more adult role for director Martin Scorsese's 1976 film Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro. Foster played a young prostitute named Iris. For the role she earned an Academy Award nomination. She was just 14 years old. Child star Abigail Breslin was even younger when she was nominated for Little Miss Sunshine. She was just 10 years of age. (Trivia sidenote: the youngest actress to be nominated -- and win -- an Oscar was Tatum O'Neal, an even younger 10, for Paper Moon.) Former child star Jodie Foster and current child star Abigail Breslin unite for the family adventure Nim's Island. It's based on the kid-lit book by Wendy Orr. Breslin plays the outgoing inhabitant of a South Pacific island and Foster is an agoraphobic adventure writer who must help young Nim find her lost father.
